We machine custom fittings and connectors for systems where a leak, a loose connection, or a pressure drop isn't acceptable. From hydraulic fittings and pneumatic connectors to manifold blocks and sensor housings, we produce the precision-machined connection points your assemblies depend on. 75+ years in business, ISO 9001 certified, and built for production volumes from first articles to millions of parts.

We use a variety of machining processes to manufacture custom precision parts with tight tolerances and unique features.
We manufacture parts for power generation, hydraulics, HVAC, and measurement applications. When we talk about custom fittings and connectors, we're referring to machined parts designed to integrate seamlessly into your unique assembly. Unlike off-the-shelf components, these are engineered to meet exact specifications for your application, whether it involves fluid transfer, secure structural connections, or specific electrical housing requirements.
• Fluid and gas fittings: Hydraulic fittings, pneumatic connectors, pipe fittings, tube fittings, and compression bodies — machined for leak-free performance at your operating pressures.
• Adapters and couplings: Transition fittings that bridge different thread standards, port sizes, or connection types. We machine SAE, ORB, JIC, NPT, BSPP, and metric port configurations.
• Manifold blocks: Multi-port manifolds that consolidate connections, reduce leak points, and simplify your system plumbing. Milled from solid billet with precision internal passages.
• Sensor and instrumentation connectors: Process connections, thermowell housings, gauge adapters, and transmitter manifolds for measurement devices.
• Valve bodies and plugs: Custom valve housings, seat inserts, and plug assemblies with precision-machined sealing surfaces.
• Structural and panel connectors: Bulkhead fittings, panel-mount connectors, and pass-through assemblies.

Spex is equipped to be your comprehensive machining partner. Our manufacturing capabilities and just-in-time inventory management solutions are built to scale with your needs.
CNC Milling: Primary method for manifold blocks, complex connector housings, and fittings with non-round features. Our 6-axis capability handles internal passages, angled ports, and integrated mounting features in a single setup.
CNC Turning: Produces the cylindrical bodies, ferrules, and port features common to most fittings. We hold the concentricity and surface finish required for O-ring sealing surfaces and metal-to-metal seats.
Swiss Screw Machining: Small-diameter fittings and connectors (under 7/8") for instrumentation, medical devices, and compact assemblies. High efficiency for production runs of precision miniature fittings.
Multi-Spindle Machining: High-volume fittings and connectors where per-part cost matters. Ideal for standard fittings produced in quantities of 10,000+.

Spex is equipped to be your comprehensive machining partner. In addition to our machining, we offer secondary processes like plating, engraving, anodizing, and heat treating. Our manufacturing capabilities and just-in-time inventory management solutions are built to scale with your needs.
Selecting the right material is crucial for the performance and durability of your parts. Our team has extensive experience machining a diverse array of materials, ensuring optimal machinability and dimensional accuracy
Stainless Steels (303, 304, 316, 416): The standard for fittings in corrosive, high-temperature, or sanitary environments. 316 for chemical and marine service; 303 for high-volume production where machinability drives cost.
Brass and Bronze: The go-to for plumbing fittings, gas connectors, and lead-free potable water applications. Excellent machinability produces smooth sealing surfaces with minimal secondary finishing.
Aluminum (6061, 7075): Lightweight fittings for aerospace, pneumatics, and weight-sensitive assemblies. Often anodized for corrosion resistance and wear protection.
Carbon and Alloy Steels (1018, 4140): High-pressure hydraulic fittings and structural connectors where strength takes priority over corrosion resistance. Typically zinc plated or black oxide coated.
Specialty Alloys (Hastelloy, Monel, Inconel, Titanium): For fittings exposed to aggressive chemicals, extreme temperatures, or seawater. We have the tooling and experience to machine these efficiently.

Exact tolerances depend on the material, machining process, and part dimensions. Spex consistently holds exceptionally tight tolerances on custom fittings and connectors. Most parts can be consistently held within ∓0.001 inches.
Quality and accuracy are fundamental at Spex. Our ISO:9001:2015 certified quality management system guides every step. We use detailed inspection processes and advanced measurement equipment to verify thread pitch, diameter, lead, and form, guaranteeing parts meet precise specifications.
Yes. We machine fittings for hydraulic systems operating at 3,000-10,000+ PSI. Material selection, wall thickness, and thread engagement are all factored into the machining process. We work from your engineering drawings — if you need design guidance, our team can advise on material and geometry.
Sealing surfaces are inspected for surface finish (Ra), flatness, and dimensional accuracy. We use controlled machining parameters and precision tooling to produce O-ring grooves, metal-to-metal seats, and flare surfaces that seal reliably at your rated pressure. Critical surfaces are protected during handling and shipping.
To provide an accurate quote, please provide detailed engineering drawings (including dimensions, tolerances, and thread specifications), the required material type, and the estimated order quantity. This information helps us streamline the quoting process.
