You can find copper parts in all sorts of products around you. Copper is one of the most versatile and most-used metals.
Spex uses CNC machines to manufacture high quantities of precision copper parts and components. We are an industry-leading machine shop and help our customers fulfill their part needs.
Copper is a widely used material worldwide and it’s incredibly versatile. It’s one of the best conductors, and a softer metal that’s easy to form and machine. Copper is used in a wide variety of industries, including: Fluid and Air Handling, Measurement, Instrumentation, Appliance, Electrical, Automotive, and Aerospace.
Copper parts are corrosion resistant, rust resistant, lightweight, electrically conductive, and malleable.
Copper is often chosen for a CNC machining project. The material is one of the easiest to machine, and CNC machines can form complex designs quickly.
Spex machines thousands of custom copper parts, including:
Like most metals, there are various grades or alloys of copper that each have slightly different properties. Pure copper is often used for electrical wiring, so other metals are added to increase the strength and durability of copper parts
Common grades of copper include: C110, C145, C172, 2011, and 2024.
C110 Copper is commercial grade copper, and the purest alloy used in machined parts. C110 is not as machinable, but has good solder-ability, corrosion resistance, and is used for high-current applications.
C145 Copper is considered a free-machining alloy. It’s ideal for parts that require extensive machining, good corrosion resistance, and high conductivity. C145 copper machines more quickly and efficiently compared to pure copper.
C172 Copper alloy has the greatest strength and corrosion resistance, and low permeability. This alloy is more expensive to machine compared to C173 or C175.
C173 Copper is a free-machining alloy, ideal for parts that require high strength and stiffness. It has excellent conductivity and is suitable for environments that require high corrosion resistance, such as marine environments.
