Micarta is a brand name for various composite materials. Industrial Micarta is a lightweight and durable plastic material with good machinability. It also has high heat resistance compared to most other nonmetal materials.
Spex uses CNC machines to manufacture precision Micarta parts and components. We are an industry-leading machine shop and help our customers fulfill their part needs.
Micarta is an industrial plastic, resin-based material that’s used in various industries. Micarta is used for automotive and aerospace parts, and electronics.
Micarta is available in sheets, tube, and solid round bars. Because it’s a versatile material, it can be machined into just about any shape. The machining can be done using a CNC machine or milling machine. Our machine shop has the capabilities and experience to manufacture large quantities of custom Micarta parts, including:
Like most metals, there are various grades or alloys of Micarta that each have slightly different properties. Different grades of Micarta plastics are reinforced with fiberglass, cotton cloth, paper, carbon fiber, or other substrates.
Micarta G10 plastic is one of the more common grades used. Compared to Nylon and ABS, G10 has a much higher tensile strength, and it’s nearly impervious to water absorption. This plastic can be machined into complex part designs, and remains stable at temperatures up to 285°F.
G10 parts are often used as a heat or electrical insulator in the aerospace industry.
